What if my newborn won’t sleep during his/her Photography session?

As a rule of thumb, we advise parents that newborn sessions take about 3 hours. However, that’s not always accurate. You see, newborns technically run the show, so they’re the ones in charge of how the session goes and how long it lasts. As you already know by now, most newborn sessions are ideally scheduled 7-14 days after birth, during which, babies are as sleepy as they can be, and it makes it easier for us photographers to pose them in those cute positions and wrap them up like potatoes! However, that’s not always the case.

Some babies are more awake than others and some are harder to settle down. It doesn’t mean that they are sick or uncomfortable, it may just be that their nature is different than others, and that’s OK. While we all love those sleepy poses, some awake photos of a newborn have always been a fan favorite of mine. So if you’re worried whether or not your baby will sleep throughout their session, rest assured that I will do my best to make it as stress-free and as comfortable for both the baby and the parents. Over the years, I’ve worked on improving my soothing techniques and I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t, and whilst they are not magical tricks or sleeping spells, they definitely help during situations like this. Also, keeping the studio nice and warm, plus having a white noise machine helps create a calm environment for the baby and eases the transition.

So if you are worried about how your baby will behave during their first modeling experience, rest assured that we will do our best to guarantee you beautiful images that you will cherish for the rest of your life!

love,

Seta
