When is the Best Time to Photograph a Newborn?
As a Waldwick, NJ newborn photographer, I’m often asked when is the best time to photograph a newborn. The answer is simple, but it’s important to understand why the ideal timeframe is 7-14 days after birth. During those first two weeks, babies tend to sleep more and are easier to pose in those adorable, snuggled-up positions that we all love. After that window, babies become more alert and harder to settle, making it more difficult to capture those perfect shots.
However, it’s important to note that not all babies are the same. I’ve had the privilege of working with over-month-old babies who slept through the entire session and didn’t make a sound. But as babies get older, it does become more difficult to pose them in certain positions. That’s why it’s important to book your newborn photography session early. Newborns are considered ‘newborns’ for just a few weeks, and their tiny features change every single day. It’s important to capture their tininess and cute little features while they’re still little. A few years down the road, you’ll look back at those images and realize just how tiny they were compared to now.
